Do You Have a BIG Need to Change?
(text adapted from JUMP! – Get Unstuck, © 2011, Robert S. Tipton)
There’s a stage that precedes the entire JUMP! model. Call it Stage Zero, or the Impetus Stage, or the Need-to-Change Stage. Stage Zero may involve only seconds (the plane has just crashed; we need to get out NOW!), or minutes (I’m about to run out of gas; I’d better pull over at the next gas station I see.), or hours, days, weeks, months, or years (What? I’m considered morbidly obese? I have developed Type 2 diabetes? Maybe it’s time to change my diet.).
Unfortunately, the impetus for change is usually based upon a response to a crisis, either real or imagined, and one that is either about to occur or has already occurred. Rarely do individuals or organizations change for positive, proactive reasons.
