What’s Holding YOU Back?

In my experience, about 99 percent of the organizations, groups, and individuals with whom I work struggle to Get Ready effectively. Why? There are many reasons, but it usually starts with difficulty in overcoming the status quo bias. Without a compelling, unifying reason to change, people will remain anchored to what they know. The old saying “The devil I know is better than the devil I don’t know” comes to mind. However, the greatest failure related to change isn’t choosing the wrong path forward; it’s choosing NO path forward.
However, beware of hidden trap waiting for you. Your approach to change needs to survive the “cleaning the basement, attic, or garage” dynamic. What do I mean? Describe what it looks like when you’re in the middle of cleaning any one of these clutter traps. Does it look better or worse than when you started?
If you’re like most people, once you’ve begun to take down the boxes from the shelves, to pull away the piles of stuff from the walls, to move, shift, push, or pull all the things you’ve accumulated, you begin to seriously question your decision to begin in the first place. Why? Everything looks worse than when you started. Sometimes much worse, and when that happens, the closet finger-waggers jump out everywhere. You know these folks: They’re the ones just ready to say “I told you so.” This attitude can destroy your ability to innovate and can bring the status quo bias rushing back into the room amazingly fast.
Do you want to create a vision that’s big enough, powerful enough to overcome your status quo bias? Watch the video below to get more insight, and then take a look at the tools below to get some practical, innovative assistance.
